Indonesia has over 700 languages and hundreds of people groups. Many of them have almost no Christians. Here are some you can pray for. Figures are approximate and vary between sources.

Sasak

Lombok · approx. 3 million people

The large majority on Lombok. Almost all are Muslim, and very few have heard the gospel from a friend or neighbour.

Balinese

Bali · approx. 3–4 million people

Hinduism and Balinese culture are woven together. Choosing Jesus can feel like turning your back on family and village.

Javanese

Java · approx. about 95 million people

Indonesia's largest people group, almost all Muslim. There are small Christian communities, but most people do not know any Christians.

Sundanese

West Java · approx. about 40 million people

One of the world's largest people groups with almost no Christians. Islam is a strong part of their identity.

Madurese

Madura and East Java · approx. about 13 million people

Known as a strong and proud people, with few Christians and little material in their own language.

Minangkabau

West Sumatra · approx. about 7 million people

A matrilineal society where Islam and tradition are closely bound together. Very few known Christians.

Acehnese

Aceh, northern Sumatra · approx. about 4 million people

Aceh has its own sharia law, and it is very hard to be a Christian here.

Bima (Mbojo)

Eastern Sumbawa · approx. about 1 million people

The people of eastern Sumbawa, not far from Lombok. Practically all are Muslim, and there is little Christian work.
